Smoky Brown Cockroach are the newest roach spotted in California and are believed to be coming over in shipping containers mainly from Taxes. The Smoky Brown cockroach usually lives outside in damp areas such as mulch, wood piles rotten trees and so on.
Smoky Brown Cockroaches are attracted to light inside home and can sneak in if window or doors are left open or there is even a small gap in the doors or windows.
Most cockroaches are not picky eaters. They can live off of dropping, dead insects, meat, sweet and starches.
The Smoky Brown Cockroach is a little more shiny, slightly smaller on average and is more attracted to light then the American Cockroach. It is an easy mistake to assume an American Cockroach for Smoky Brown and vica versa.

Their color can change based on how long it has been since they molted but are usually a reddish color. It is not uncommon for a person to pick up a board and have hundreds of these roaches scatter and can often be found in garages.

Then Pull everything out of the cabinets ( even the shelving boards if possible and clean with soap and water as well as getting in the hinges. leave cabinets empty and appliances pulled away from the wall and then call a licensed profesional to come in and treat the home.

If you see cockroaches in cabinets or climbing walls or on counters inside during the day it’s time to talk to a licensed professional to verify if it’s an infestation.
